Welcome to

Naturum

Naturum Tåkern is one of Sweden’s 32 national nature centers. A naturum is a gateway to Sweden’s unique natural and cultural areas.

Naturum Tåkern is located by the lake of the birds, Tåkern, in the southwestern parts of the county of Östergötland. Here, you will learn about the fantastic nature and culture of the region, in the form of exhibitions, films, guided tours and much more.

The experienced guides greet you and share information about nature, birds, animals, and plants. And you will learn about why we need to protect our nature. Naturum is a natural meeting place for everyone with an interest in nature and the environment.

We also host guest exhibitions that changes a few times a year.

Inside you’ll also find our knowledgeable guides that will happily answer any questions you may have.

The exhibition offer an audioguide in english and german. Bring your own headphones and scan the QR code with your phone. Wifi is free inside.

Discover the outdoors

You’ll find naturum Tåkern in the Glänås visitor area on the south shore of Tåkern. We provide good opportunities for you to experience Tåkern’s rich birdlife, wildlife, and flora.

The birdwatching tower is accessible to everyone and will get you a good view of a large part of the lake where you can watch the abundance of ducks, geese, swans and other swimming birds. You reach the tower with a 120 meter long gently sloping wooden ramp.

Several hiking trails start from the tower. The boardwalk is fully accessible and takes you through the chirping birds in the riparian forest, across the flowering beach meadows, through the tall reeds and out to open water.

The trail “Vassleden” is a 4-kilometer (2,5 miles) round walk. Along the trail you’ll find self powered audio interpretation machines, crank it and listen to information in either english or german. A unique experience is promised!

The promenade “Princess Estelle’s fairytale path” is particularly suitable for children and families.

Near the parking lot is a play area, and several barbecue areas. The toilets are open all year round. In the parking lot you’ll be able to park your caravan for a night and fall asleep listening to the muffled sound of the Eurasian bittern or the cranes and geese flying in to the lake for the night.

Don’t forget to recycle your trash!
